Ok. so just to make it clear. I AM NOT A CODER! nor am I actually writting any programs for MMOs. this is just for discussion purposes only! Let us take a look at MMO EULA's, alot of them say something to the effect that the use of 3rd party apps are not allowed to be used when they take control of the client (1st party app) and give one an unfair advantage over another subscriber. Ok that sounds fine and dandy. But what about 2nd Party apps? Well what is a 2nd party app to begin with right? This is how I view it, hopefully others will share their perspective knowning that it is just that. an opinion. and not necessarily the truth. Lets use EQ2 for example: the 1st party would be SOE since they made the game. It is theirs. From there perspective, which is the one in question when agreeing to an EULA to play the game. So they see it is 'I'. I, being SOE, made EQ2. 3rd party would be STEVE or PAM or insert name here. 2nd party would be YOU (aka ME) So if I were to write a program that automates a certain aspect of the game to help me play faster, better, what have ya. then I would not be in violation of the EULA, unless I distributed or shared this program I wrote. or used a program that I did not write (or SOE). following me.? Sorta like when you write a story. there is: 1st Person - I did this, I went to the store. 2nd Person - You did this, You went to the store. 3rd Person - STEVE did this, steve went to the store. So then it must be valid that one is not breaking any EULA agreements if they themselves write a program to help with playing an MMO. Since from SOE perspective, the one in question, would have to view as such. They, us, SOE, the 1st party created EQ2. and YOU, the 2nd party created your own application to help with playing EQ2, and not STEVE or PAM or insert name here, the 3rd party creator of apps. Your thoughts?
